Switchable smart glass

Switchable smart glass uses a PDLC interlayer between toughened plies so the panel moves between clear and obscured states when power is applied. Busbars, transformers and switching circuits must align with ceiling containment and maintenance access, because the film edge is sensitive to moisture and mechanical damage.

It suits meeting rooms and clinical spaces where blinds would clutter the façade. Double-glazed versions place the switchable laminate as the inner leaf so the outer pane carries thermal performance and weathering while the inner leaf handles privacy control.

Standard Glass Specification

Outer: 6mm toughened glass leaf forming the weather or office-side surface of a double unit.
Cavity: 16mm argon-filled cavity when paired as insulating glass; monolithic switchable where internal only.
Inner: 6mm toughened inner encasing PDLC interlayer with edge deletion for electrodes.
Power: Low-voltage drivers sized for panel area; earthing per manufacturer instruction.
Control: Wall switch, BAS relay or AV scene trigger coordinated during commissioning.
