Flat rooflights

A fixed flat rooflight is a straightforward way to bring controlled daylight into kitchens, utility rooms and circulation cores where the roof build-up stays near-horizontal. The insulated unit sits on a prepared upstand with drained outer seals, so performance depends on curb height, falls and how the internal lining meets the frame.

On domestic extensions we typically work from opening sizes, structural bearings and target U-values, then align outer pane exposure class, cavity width and inner leaf safety glass with the room below. Solar gain, cleaning access and any guarding loads at the kerb are checked early so the glazing schedule matches the architect’s General Arrangement.

Standard Glass Specification

Outer: 6mm toughened glass, low-iron available where colour neutrality matters.
Cavity: 16mm argon-filled warm-edge spacer cavity as standard.
Inner: 6.4mm laminated low-E toughened glass (inner leaf for overhead safety).
Spacer: Warm-edge spacer bar to reduce perimeter condensation risk.
Coating: Soft-coat low-E to cavity face of inner pane unless a specialist solar coating is specified.
